Six Canons of Hseih Ho (circa 479)

Posted By Jack B. Kushnick

1- Circulation of the Ch’i produces movement of life

2- Brush creates structure

3- According to the object draw its form

4- According to the nature of the object apply color

5- Organize composition with the elements in their proper places

6- In copying, seek to pass on the essence of the Master’s brush and methods

I will be giving my interpretation of each of these ‘principles’ of Chinese Brush Art in the upcoming weeks and how my paintings reflect these traditional concepts.
